Analysis of Bragg curve parameters and lateral straggle for proton and carbon beams

Heavy ions have varying effects on the target. The most important factor in comparing this effect is Linear Energy Transfer (LET). Protons and carbons are heavy with high LET. Since these lose energy through collisions as they move tissue, their range not long. This loss of increases along way, maximum reached at end range. whole process represented by Bragg curve. input dose curve, full width half (FWHM) value, peak amplitude position, Penumbra thickness factors determining which particle advantageous tumor treatment. While small deviations occur direction travel due to Coulomb collisions. These cause lateral straggle profile. Lateral type used treatments close critical organs. In our study, when water phantom protons carbon beams different energies taken into consideration, dose, FWHM penumbra calculated using TRIM code results compared Monte Carlo (MC) simulation. It was found that proton has an average 63% more 53% than ion. ion 28-45 times greater same location proton. observed scattered approximately 70% straggle. difference be around 1.32 mm. line all results, commonly hadron therapy applications were compared.
